Love Month – February 4

I love sunsets.

While sunrises signify hope to me, sunsets remind me what is past is past.

I personally see more sunsets than sunrises. We’ve already established I am a slug in the morning, but twilight is my favorite time of day.

I’ve been known to jump in the car and chase a sunset to get a better view, looking to see it at its best. There’s light, then twilight, them magical skies, then dark. All in a matter of minutes.

I was sitting here pondering sunsets, and for some reason the sad tune of Taps came to mind. I checked myself on the lyrics and there were some verses I didn’t know.

“Day is done, gone the sun.

From the hills, from the lake, from the skies.

All is well, Safely rest, God is nigh.

Go to sleep, Peaceful sleep,

May the soldier or sailor God keep.

On the land, Or the deep, Safe in sleep.

Love, good night, Must thou go

When the day, And the night, Need thee so?

All is well, Speedeth all, To their rest.

Fades the light; and afar

Goeth day, And the stars Shineth bright.

Fare thee well, Day has gone, Night is on.

Thanks and praise, For our days,

‘Neath the sun, ‘Neath the stars, ‘Neath the sky.

As we go, This we know, God is nigh.”

We tend to think of Taps as a sad song, but it isn’t. It’s as though God is tucking us into bed. It reminds us that it is time to sleep peacefully. Tomorrow we can start again, but for now we rest. Those dorky, embarrassing, worrisome things of the day that consume our soul can be left at the feet of God.

I love sunsets because they remind me that we can leave the burdens of yesterday behind; possibly forever, or maybe for a while so we can tackle them refreshed.

“The sunset is life’s way of saying “Good job, you survived today, here’s something pretty.”Unknown

    1. Thanks Mia! I started my blog after doing this on Facebook in 2012. A few of my friends told me they missed it when it was over and said I needed to find an outlet to write. One was a blogger herself, so she pushed me in that direction. It’s been a great journey.
