Tax Day Is Staring Me Down

I ran across a Facebook memory from ten years ago when I vowed never to wait until the last minute to do taxes again.

I lied.

Tuesday is approaching quickly and I have found all kinds of ways to avoid doing them. I should be ashamed, but it’s been fun. I’m not. I have two more days and the software is downloaded and last year’s returns loaded. That’s half the battle, right?

Yeah, it’s not ideal.

Oh, but so much fun to tell you about!

I went to the Picasso landscapes exhibit at the Mint Museum in Charlotte with my cousin, a teacher on spring break. We enjoyed our time there. I had a platelet donation scheduled for 5 p.m., and our tickets were noon until 2, so we had to head home directly after to make sure traffic didn’t ruin things.

Do I like Picasso? I have no idea. Sometimes I find him a genius and other times I think “I could do that”.

I couldn’t. I am the worst artist ever. Picasso certainly beats me. And I do find his work interesting.

Saturday there was more art. Sort of. I went to a bow making class. There wasn’t much time for me to actually make bows – it was a lot of demonstration. My ADHD/dyslexic mind cannot retain how to make all those bows without trying to follow along. But I did get a glimpse of the possibilities.

Saturday afternoon I went to two concerts. We had this cool festival in town showcasing singers/songwriters and I allowed myself four hours out of it weekend to enjoy some music.

I went to the Wonen’s Appreciation show (picture above) and the local legends. The format was four musicians and a host, also a musician. They asked questions of each of them before each song choice.

I admit to especially being touched by the female musicians being so supportive of each other and fangirling on each other. I don’t blame them. I was doing the same from the audience.

Another musician friend posted on Facebook today how all the artists supporter each other and described it as magical. I agree. It’s such a lovely thing. I hope this festival grows and I invite you all to experience it with us.

By the way, I do record short videos of many of these concerts I go to and put them on NewsBreak. Funny thing is I have no idea how to find them. I haven’t yet learned how to make good video with their tool, though the concerts aren’t bad. I point in their direction and let them go.

Today we had cool guests at church talking about a community program we’re getting involved in. Someone gave our church a large donation with the request we use it for non-traditional ministry. This is one way we’ll be doing it. It will be exciting to see it develop. I’ll share more at another time.

And the “better health for me 2023” campaign is started. My insurance company runs a program that stresses eating better and moving more. After not doing well with the program with the dietician last year (not her fault – just a series of complications), I’m still needing the accountability. This is another year-long program. I’m hoping this works! I’ll try to tell you about it as I go along.

So, a bit more procrastination instead of doing my taxes. This is such an overwhelming time of year.
