Love Month – Day 5

I love the unique.

I have always loved those things that are different and quirky. Especially those things I see in the people around me or the odd stories they tell me.

When I was on vacation recently I met a lovely guy from Brazil. He started telling me about his cats. He showed me pictures – I know nothing about cat breeds (so don’t ask), but I could tell these were definitely pedigreed. They were amazingly regal and very well cared for.

This guy, Adrian, was an amazing storyteller so proceeded to tell me that these cats were very privileged. He lives in a large condominium and his cats have basically taken over the place. They even have to their own room – and tons of toys and exercise equipment.

For the trip Adrian had left them with his 92-year old mother. The cats had never stayed anywhere except his apartment, but we were going to be gone so long (this was my Antarctica trip) he didn’t want to hire a pet sitter.

The cats didn’t love this arrangement. The girl cat was nonetheless quite docile. When he got a chance, however, the boy cat ran out of Adrian’s mom’s door.

All the family forces came out and they looked for the cat. They couldn’t find him.

His cousin finally had an idea. She told Adrian she knew of a cat psychic but he would have to pay for it.

“I’m not sure I believe in cat psychics, but what can I do? If I don’t agree to hire her and we don’t find him I’ll always wonder,” Adrian said.

So he agreed to foot the bill.

The cat psychic told them the cat was in a place with wallpaper or paint that was cream and brown. She also said he was very mad at Adrian for leaving him, and wanted to be back to his home.

They advertised all over Facebook groups and in the neighborhood. After several days the cat was found – in the building next door to the one Adrian’s mother lived in.

“Did the walls match what the psychic said?,” I asked.

“I think so,” Adrian said.

Not the usual way to find something, and I doubt I’ll be consulting a psychic any time soon, but I enjoyed the unique way they found his precious cat.

Invest in those things you love. I’m investing in the unique.
