Love Month – Day 22

I love celebrating people.

It’s easy to take our folks for granted. Forget what they mean to our lives.

Last night we celebrated our friend Lisa, who turned 50. This is the reason I’m in Texas.

In many ways it was not the best time to visit. I’m not great at parties (I get major social anxiety) and I didn’t get to spend much time with Lisa. Still she knew I was there – and that was the point. This was her day and she deserved to be celebrated by those who are do glad she has been part of their life.

She’s an active friend, even living far away. When I have a problem, she’ll try to help find a solution. When I need straight talk, she’ll do it. When I need someone to listen, she’s there. When a confidence needs to be kept, she’ll do it.

It was a rainy night, and the forecast meant they had to re-work details to make it work – it was to be held outside. I believe in some ways those changes may make it more memorable for those who were there.

They had two guys on pianos who but got crowd singing and dancing. They were a gift of her best friend of many years (from her high school days).

There were family, friends from different work places, neighbors new and old, high school friends, friends from the hot air ballooning community (how we met). We were all there because she is a spark plug who wants her friends to enjoy life with her.

Invest in those things you love. I’m investing in celebrating people.

“Let us be grateful to people who make us happy, they are the charming gardeners who make our souls blossom.” – Marcel Proust
