(OK, I got behind due to travel. ADHD is a real thing.)
I love random encounters with people.
I was in a restaurant in the San Antonio Riverwalk for lunch the other day. I was inside – even though it was a gorgeous day, I had been outside all day and I was hungry, so said I’d just take the first available table. I just planned to eat and read my Kindle anyway.
It was pretty open, so the birds could easily fly in. Several birds were in when I got there and one of the waiters chased them out.
Of course, I enjoyed they kept coming back and I enjoyed the show. Someone had left baskets of tortilla chips on the table and there was a bird determined to eat them.
There was a couple finshed up with lunch and waiting to pay. The man got up and chased it out. He sat back down and it came back in. Of course I laughed and said something like “Guess he showed you who’s boss.”
That got us talking – they were from Houston. I told them I had just been there and was flying out of there the next day. We probably talked for about ten minutes before they keft.
It was nice. I think they would agree.
I think that “Don’t talk to strangers” line has shaped us negatively a lit of the time. We’re living in an isolated world – why not make it less so?
Invest in those things you love. I’m investing in random encounters.
