“Music is a moral law. It gives soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, and charm and gaiety to life and to everything.” – Plato
Sydney Lett turned 24 last week and she has already crammed so much into her young life. For one, she has already learned the lesson of recording contracts with big labels who want to change the person you are probably won’t make you happy in the long run. She likes herself as she is, and we do, too. Silly executives.
We’re fortunate that she lives in the Statesville, NC area now and is a big part of our local music scene. She returned here because this is NASCAR country and in her early days she spent a lot of time singing the National Anthem at NASCAR events.
She still has strong ties with NASCAR, and moved back to be surrounded by the friends she made there, but we’re fortunate that she brought her music.
Her days now are spent with her horses and guitar, and she expects to release a new album soon.
Friday she was performing at our local wine store The Wine Maestro, that often hosts local music. I love it as a venue, as it is comfortable and intimate, though not always an easy place to get photos and video, especially since I usually just have my cell phone for a camera.
My friends Jan and Lisa and I brought our dinner in and ate as we listened. I just love that it’s pumpkin season. The pumpkin ale was fantastic. Why does pumpkin need a season? I want it year round.
Wherever you are, I bet there are local musicians you can support. Especially in these times they could use your support.
