A Week at the Beach – and Taxes Still To Do

I arrived home from a week at the beach on Sunday. Still my luggage sits on my bedroom floor, unpacked. I didn’t wear half the clothes I took. Since I was driving, I took much more than if I were flying. Generally I am trying to pack much less, but the weather was so iffy. Most of the time it was cold and rainy. But guess what? I didn’t mind! I read and wrote and talked to my friend and it was wonderful.

My friend’s condo is beachfront on the 11th floor at North Myrtle Beach. If you need to be inside it’s the most gorgeous place to be. When we would be outside walking on the beach in jackets, there was a group of college kids in bikinis. The beer pong table they had set up may have accounted for a bit of warmth.

My friend has a tiny dog and she was quite popular when we went on beach walks. It was fun to see how many stopped us. Puppies are definitely a great way to meet people.

The day I needed to return home it was warm and the sun was out – which made for a gorgeous ride home, but I didn’t even let myself stand on the beach. The temptation to stay too long was too strong. But hopefully I’ll get more beach time soon.

My taxes are not done, nothing new for me, but the tax software is making me crazy. I keep starting and stopping. I’m using the same software I have used for many years and I have never had these issues before. I can get them done in a couple of hours, but I keep stopping because it’s doing weird things. Taxes will get done sometime – maybe!

Every month I get to do a musician profile for the Iredell Free News magazine – a paper magazine that shows a lot of the color of our county. Those who live in Iredell County look for it – it’s distributed in quite a few places around town (even my church) and in some racks downtown. The Iredell Free News is an online daily paper that is both informative and courageous. I love a lot of things about it, but especially love they don’t charge for obituaries. The editor re-writes them based on the info families submit and recognizes what an important thing that is to do. Iredellfreenews.com

I won’t tell you who May’s musician is yet but it’s someone who is bringing something new to our area. Music lovers who love a regular musical date will need to mark the first Thursday night of each month on their calendars. You’ll probably be able to figure out who it is before the issue hits the stand.

April’s edition is out there now and features Troutman’s Shellum Cline, a Christian country artist with 12 chart-hitting records to date. He premiered his new CD in Troutman at his homecoming in March, sure to produce another #1!

Oh, and my June musician to interview is already set up and it’s someone I have had on my list since the first. They have new music coming out this summer and I suspect it will blow people away. They are an extraordinary person and I already consider them a friend.

Start saving your pennies – you’re going to want to buy some new music.

Right before I left for the beach I found out a high school friend had died unexpectedly.

I found out at the beach I’d lost another friend and our community lost a powerhouse for good. She was a dynamo of caring. I always looked at her with a bit of awe. There is good reason. Here is her obituary. I’ll miss you, Susie.
