A Little Time at the Gym

Isn’t the yellow gorgeous? I don’t really like the color yellow, but I love seeing a canola field blooming. They’re everywhere around here and after Easter lunch my youngest nephew and I stopped for a few pictures. Gee, I love that kid.

My eating is going OK, though my nutritionist has me back entering my food into My Fitness Pal. I am not losing many pounds, though I do feel a difference in my clothes.

So far from studying the app I can see I don’t eat enough calories. I still struggle eating three meals and two snacks daily, trying to keep the proteins coming regularly to keep the metabolism firing.

I find it interesting that I am complaining about how often I have to eat. I don’t have time! I’ve got things to do. Three meals and two snacks spaced 3-4 hours apart? It’s so hard!

Isn’t it funny you go from obsessed about what your next meal is going to be to “Do I really need to eat again?”

I know I need to meal plan – other than baking sweet potatoes (they are so much better cooked in the oven) I don’t get much else done. But I need to try. Having good, healthy food ready to eat is important. Feel free to share your tips, or links to blogs you have written on the subject or yummy healthy recipes without a lot of ingredients you have tried and that help keep you on track.

The big news is I finally joined our local Rec Center. While I’ll keep my membership at our hospital pool because I love their classes, the equipment there just didn’t feel good to me. It is old and needs to be replaced, but this is so tough to get done with hospitals (replacing equipment). Their pool has been in need of resurfacing even since I started going there (was it six years ago?)

The equipment at the Rec Center is new and well-maintained. The hours are much longer than the hospital’s (you have to work around Physical Therapy time there.) They have all different kinds of classes, in person and through streaming. There is a rock climbing wall. There is an outdoor pool where they will do a water aerobics class in the summer, but also a lazy river for which they will reverse direction and let people walk there. Best of all the annual membership fee was only $110 since I qualify as a senior and live in the city limits.

I have worked out there a couple of times and definitely feel more confident on their equipment. Best of all the rest of the week I had that nice twinge of muscles that hadn’t been worked out in a while. It wasn’t painful. I learned a long time ago to push yourself, but not so far it takes a long while for the muscles to recover.

I’ll try to be there a couple of times a week at first (hopefully increasing as I go along), and attend the hospital water classes three or four times a week right now.

I’m sleeping poorly right now, so trying to figure out what’s going on there. Like today I am exhausted. I woke up several times during the night. I hate when that happens. My norm is to sleep through for 6-7 hours.

Have a great week! Let’s try for balance in all areas of our life.

  1. I’m really enjoying the updates. Thanks for keeping us in the loop.
Balance is a really good goal. It’s interesting that you mention not eating enough. I used to work as a personal trainer, and that is something very common to women. It’s hard to convince them that they won’t lose weight until they eat more.
Sorry about the poor sleep: I hate insomnia. 💖

    1. The updates are another layer of accountability. It helps me to write them, especially getting no judgment but only encouragement from people like you. I learned about the not eating enough once years ago when I did Weight Watchers. It’s weird. I feel as though I am eating enough, but I have been looking for the “what am I doing wrong?” and that is one of the things I notice. I’m trying to hit close to the number she chose for me now and I think I’m doing a pretty good job.

Last night sleep was better, but I have been sluggish today. I’m about to go take a hike for a few miles and see if that helps.
